Carbon County, PA For Everyone
Carbon County, located in the Pocono mountains of northeast Pennsylvania was created on March 13, 1843 from parts of Northampton and Monroe Counties and was named for the extensive deposits of coal in the region.
June in Carbon County brings the beauty of the mountain laurel, Pennsylvania’s state flower, into bloom. The flower is easily found and recognized by their soft white petals that explode on large bushy foliage often located just off roadways, growing wild.
Carbon County is also the location of the trials and executions of the controversial Molly Maguires, an Irish secret society that had been accused of terrorizing the region.
The Lehigh River, a popular river for whitewater rafting rivers in the East, makes its way through the heart of Carbon County. The best whitewater season runs from early spring through June and then resumes in the fall.
Residents and visitors all enjoy summertime in Carbon County, Pennsylvania, as summertime heat means that outdoor recreation is in full swing, as a wide assortment of activities is enjoyed. Train rides through the cool mountain air, swimming, water-skiing, boating and so much more is partaken. Summertime in Carbon County is the main season for festivals, fairs and flea markets. Horseback riding, picnicking, or just spending a day or a weekend relaxing at one of the many state and county parks brings pleasure to so many.
The good times continue through Autumn, as cool weather brings the changing of the seasons and with it the changing colors of trees and other plant-life. Oktoborfests, Arts & Crafts Fairs, and of colorful foliage excursions by train and festivals celebrating the brilliant flaming foliage that nature has provided.
Carbon County, PA never really shuts down for winter. The local communities, such as Jim Thorpe, the county seat, always keep their doors open to visitors looking to enjoy winter activities, or just take a look at the decorations lining the streets and shops.
For family fun and enjoyment, don’t leave Carbon county, PA off your “to do” list!
