Garlic Lovers Don’t Think It’s The Stinkiest Festival In Easton

Easton’s annual Garlic Festival is promoted as, “the stinkiest festival.” Of course, the smell to many may make it seem true. The concentration of garlic at Easton’s Garlic Festival is obvious, but overwhelming.

In fact even those who don’t have an undying passion for garlic soon succumb to the aroma of local food vendors cooking up all types of dishes using garlic.

The vendors cook on stages in order for people to view the creations being made. There is judging for a winner to be crowned the, “Gastric Garlic People’s Choice.”

This writer is in no broad sense a garlic fanatic, but I do like it on many of my foods and I certainly am glad to have it available for adding to my own dishes, as well as other uses.  I remember, as a teenager, who would go off on extended camping trips (over 35 years ago), bringing a couple of cloves of garlic. It’s sole purpose was to take a small bite before hitting the sleeping bag on those chilly nights. I never caught a cold. To this day, I still eat a bit of fresh garlic on occasion to ward off illness during the winter months.

So, yes, I appreciate garlic. I use it for medicinal purposes, I put it on my pizza and my pasta dishes and my toasted bread and my… you know, I think I’m a garlic lover. However, if the Easton Garlic Festival offers me garlic flavored ice cream (yes, they really do have it there) I’m not going to indulge. I’ve got to draw the line someplace.

At the Easton Garlic Festival there’s music, wine and beer tasting (last we heard, no garlic flavored, but let us know if that changes), and even a blood bank on location for you to help others. Did you think where’s there’s garlic, there wouldn’t be someone around to take your blood?

So, get ready for a fun time at the Easton Garlic Festival. Just do those around you a favor when you head home. Take a breath mint.
