Palmerton Halloween Parade
Palmerton, PA Loves Halloween and a Parade
The Palmerton, PA Halloween Parade takes place, as you would expect in October. Usually two weeks before Halloween day, normally beginning at 4pm.
It seems to grow each year as it gains popularity among locals and visitors. There are numerous organizations that parade down Delaware Ave., the main street of Palmerton that runs down it’s center of a planned mining community. The local high school band, the fire company, rescue squad, rotary clubs and many others participate in this televised event.
Beginning on the east side of Delaware Ave., the Palmerton Halloween Parade travels the length of it, coming to the last light in town and veering right onto Mauch Chunk Road, the less used portion of the parade route by visitors, as they tend to congregate on the main drag of Delaware Ave., in the middle of Palmerton.
The kids down on my end (Mauch Chunk) seem to score better in the candy department. They have less competition and the throwers realize they have to rid themselves of any reserves they may have been holding back with, so the candy seems to flow freely.
As just mentioned about the goodies, the firemen and other paraders toss candy to the children as they proceed. The fire trucks, rescue vehicles, and other vehicles sound off along the way. The kids love it and it is a fun and enjoyable afternoon.
Even I have to admit that I don’t mind the kids on the route which passes by my own home. It is one of the few days I don’t yell, “Get off my lawn!”
The kids are cute, the participants generous in offerings, and I get to watch it all from the vantage of my residence which sits above the roadway. I even score some candy if I venture down to the road and beg for a few scraps, as an adult.
Come on out to Palmerton for the Halloween Parade. I’ll even let you sit on my grass. It will be a great time!
